Newsletter Marketing: Why it Continues to be Relevant, Even in 2021

Newsletters are one of the most powerful tools available to you as a business owner. In the absence of social media, it is one of the only tools that allows you to still reach your audience and potential customers. We saw this first hand a few weeks ago when both Facebook and Instagram went down for the majority of the day! What would you do if social media vanished or you lost your platform there? Newsletter marketing is the answer.

Newsletters, first and foremost, convert higher than pretty much any other marketing tactic. This means that generating sales through newsletters is easier than other methods and happens at a higher rate overall. It keeps you in touch with your audience, allows you to build excitement with them for launches of new products or services and enables you to sell to a group of people who are already primed and interested in what you do.

Newsletters also give you credibility and allow you to showcase your expertise on a certain subject matter. By positioning yourself as an authority in your field you gain your reader’s trust which in turn makes them much more likely to click over to your website, make purchases from you and more. A potential customer generally goes through a funnel of “like, know, trust” before making a purchase-based decision. They first decide they like your brand or services, get to know you and what you offer and then begin to trust you. Positioning yourself as an authority in your field to your audience via your newsletter helps move potential customers along this progression.

Content is king when it comes to search engine optimization for your website, this we know. Newsletters allow you to test subject matter in smaller levels to gauge interest and then you can expand upon that topic further into a blog post if the response is positive. If you do decide to expand the newsletter into a full blog post for your website, you know there is interest and have already done a portion of the work, which saves you time.
