Infant CPR – Why You MUST Learn!

By Frank Cutrone of CPR Courses International, LLC

The reported incidence of sudden cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac death (SCA/SCD) in children and young adults ranges from 0.5 to 2.5 per 100,000 person-years.

In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that approximately 1500 people under 25 years of age die each year of sudden cardiac death.

The mortality rate for children presenting to the emergency department after sudden cardiac death is approximately 90 percent.

That’s why you MUST learn!

Why is it important for new parents and grandparents to learn infant CPR/AED and Basic First Aid with an emphasis on airway obstruction and severe allergic reaction?

As a certified training facility with the American Heart Association, CPR COURSES INTERNATIONAL (C.C.I. ) has hosted training sessions for new parents along with daycare providers and medical professionals in the field of pediatrics.

Although it may be less common for a child or infant to experience death due to sudden cardiac arrest, it can happen. Actions taken by a nearby responder within a few minutes following this incident may mean the difference between life and death.

Our team of medical professionals and educators are experts in equipping caregivers with the knowledge and resources in case of an emergency.

Respiratory arrest due to asthma, anaphylaxis or airway obstruction caused by a foreign object may also quickly lead to sudden cardiac arrest.

The National Library of Medicine details the different stages of development for infants ages 0-12 months old. During this span of growth and learning, it is imperative for all who care and supervise children in this age range to be prepared in case of sudden death.

More and more new (and seasoned) parents are registering for our Mommy and Me Infant CPR Certification course every Sunday morning at 9am. Free coffee and hot chocolate is offered to course registrants along with additional resources including a de-choker for a family of 4 or more who choose to register for the same training session.

The most rewarding gift is the confidence of knowing there will be a safer environment through growing and applying this much needed knowledge around saving an infant in case of an emergency.

Additionally, C.C.I. offers regular CPR/AED and BFA certification throughout the week. We also offer remote courses including Microsoft Word certification, Food Handler’s Certification, Social Emotional Learning and Professional Development Boot Camp based on career and college readiness.
